Sadad Ali- Executive Director

African Coalition Workforce was founded in late 2010 by Sadad Ali and its mission is to foster economic growth and self-sufficiency for African refugees,immigrants, and San Diego residents who lack the basic skill’s to access mainstream opportunities by providing employment services, financial empowerment, and youth leadership. Mr. Ali moved to San Diego in 1994 as a refugee with his mother and five siblings. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and a minor in Business Management. Sadad grew up in City Heights and is the current Co-Chair of the peace Promotion Momentum Team and for Mid-City Community Advocacy Coordinating Council (Mid-City CAN). Sadad is also a former Health Equity Fellow with The Greenlining Institute. His research during the fellowship was about: Aligning Pathway Opportunities for Disconnected Youth and Young Men of Color.

Shawn Flanigan- Chair

Shawn Flanigan is an associate professor in the school of Public Affairs at San Diego State University. Dr. Flanigan completed her B.A in Latin American Studies and her Master in Public Administration at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She received her Ph. D. in Public Administration and policy in 2007 from the Rockefeller College of Public Administration Affairs and policy at the University at Albany-SUNNY. Dr. Flanigan teaches the undergraduate and graduate courses on public policy, public administration, and nonprofit organizations. She also teaches senior theses and independent research course. Dr. Flanigan specializes in comparative public administration and nonprofit organizations as policy actors and service providers. Her research focuses on the role nonprofit organization play in meeting the health and service needs of minorities and marginalized groups, with a specific interest in the developing world and low-income population in the United States.

David Pugh –  Mr. Pugh’s professional career reflects over 20 years of business analysis, operational overhauls, strategic planing, and technological infrastructure that facilitates rapid financial growth and market share. His leadership has been utilized in Health and Human Services,  Public Safety, Communications, and Manufacturing Environments. He is functionally responsible for quality testing and technical solutions for all business strategies, including but not limits to: Process Analysis, Program Management, Vendor Relationships, Needs Analysis, Implementation Planning, Disaster Planning & Recovery, and Systems Integration for organizational services.

Yassin Mohamed- Yassin was born in Mogadishu, Somalia and was raised in City Heights, San Diego. Mr. Mohamed is the first in his family to graduate from college and is a former graduate at San Diego State University.  Mr. Mohamed has a strong background in youth leadership and community organizing. He previously worked at Mid-City Community Advocacy Network where he build resident power and led successful community campaigns,  and he was a former youth mentor at Price Charities.  Mr. Mohamed also worked at International Rescue Committee as an Employment Case Manager and Financial Literacy Coordinator.
